The 2018 Super 32 tournament kicks off this weekend in Greensboro. New York will be well represented as 79 wrestlers head to North Carolina. The NY squad is led by six 2018 NYS Champions which includes 4x champ Adam Busiello. Adam is no stranger to the super 32 spotlight. Adam has won 6 Super 32 titles thus far, 3 in high school and 3 in middle school. Going into his final super 32 appearance Busiello is aiming for his 7th title and aiming to become the first wrestler ever to win 4 titles in the high school division. Adam’s high school teammate, Zach Redding will also be entered in the 126lbs. Redding won his first state championship for the ESM Sharks in 2018 at 120lbs. Bumping up a weight shouldn’t pose any setbacks for Redding. Could we see a possible Busiello vs Redding matchup this weekend?

State champions Dante Geislinger of Norwich and Stevo Poulin of Shenendehowa are both entered at 106lb. Geislinger and Poulin won the 99lb state title in their respective divisions in 2018. A potential meeting between these two hammers would entertain nearly everyone in New York. A division 1 SC vs division 2 SC is something fans debate all year along. Poulin has one super 32 belt on his resume winning the 70lb weight in the middle school division in 2015. State place finishers Rocco Camillaci of Hilton, Chase Liardi of Massapequa and Jace Schafer of Palmyra Macedon provide New York with formidable contenders in the 106lb weight class.

Monsignor Farrell’s Terry Adams was a state champion at 106lbs in 2018. He jumps up to 113lbs this weekend to join 3x state king Greg Diakomihalis of Hilton. This weight class is arguably the deepest of the tournament. Adams and Diakomihalis lead a plethora of NY talent in this 113lb class. Suiting up for the Empire State are state place finishers Josiah Encarnacion of Wantagh, Ivan Garcia of Portchester, Micah Roes of Lowville, Luke Smith of Hauppauge and 2x state runner-up Jordan Titus of Center Moriches. Add in Kole Mulhauser of Central Square, Section 11 champion Jake Eckerle of Commack and rising star Anthony Maiorini of Hauppauge and that is a receipt for some possible NY vs NY matchups.

Not to be outdone by the lightweights, New York's middleweight's provide plenty of experience and depth. 2018 NYS bronze medalist Logan Sciotto of Rocky Point enters at 138lbs. Sciotto is up from 113lbs a year ago. The McDougald brothers, Justin and Warren are the lone representatives from Section 6. 4x NYS place finisher Kyle Mosher of Southside enters at 152lbs. Teammates James Ryan, Ramon Perez and Ryan Siller represent CHSAA powerhouse Monsignor Farrell.

Although the upperweights look thin for NY, the quality of wrestlers will hold their own in Greensboro. Hilton Star and NYS bronze medalist Sammy Deprez highlights this group. Other NYS place finishers include Jack Chesman of Pearl River (2nd), Corey Connolly of Rocky Point (4th), JD Moore of Levittown Division (4th), Matt Rogers of Wantagh (4th) and Aaron Wolk of Horace Greeley (5th)
