The College at Brockport wrestling team competed in the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday afternoon, finishing fifth out of the 35 teams represented at the tournament. Two wrestlers in Jonathan Haas and Triston Engle snagged first place finishes, while Dillon Stowell grabbed third.
Haas easily rolled through the 125-lb weight class, winning all five of his bouts to move to 10-0 on the young season. The senior won by major decision in the opening two rounds before beating Gannon's M. Giffen in a 16-1 technical fall to move onto the semifinals. He won his next two bouts by decision, including a 4-0 win over Mount Unions N. Mancini in the finals.
Stowell won his first two matches at 133 before falling in the third round, but fought all the way back for a third place finish. In the consolation bracket, he pinned two straight opponents to earn third. Donny McCoy also wrestled well at 133, finishing in fifth place.
After earning a first round bye, Jordan Kayes pinned his first two opponents at 157 before falling in the quarterfinals and moving to the consolation bracket. He won another match there, giving him a chance in the third place match, which he dropped to settle for fourth.
Engle, who's the defending ECWC Co-Wrestler of the Week, was dominant once again, going 4-0 to move to 9-0 on the season. Three of those wins came by fall, with the lone exception being Ohio Northern's A. Bair who Engle defeated by 16-0 technical fall in the second round.
