Niagara CCC returns All-American Troy Keller and several other qualifiers from last season's squad. See below for more information from head coach Keith Maute on the 2017-18 team as well as the early season results.

New York Wrestling News (NYWN): How would you summarize last season for your team?

Keith Maute (KM): Last season was bittersweet. It was great to be conference and regional champs and qualify 9 kids for the nationals.  The national tournament could have gone better. We had a couple close losses in the All American round that I would like to have back and the illegal slam call on Troy Keller.  He did receive All American honors but should have won the tournament.

NYWN: Who are your top returning wrestlers?

125lbs Zach Burke was doing well but tore his hamstring at national duals
133lbs Freddy Eckles lost in AA round 2017
141lbs John Reina lost in AA round 2016
141lbs Michael Phelps spot starter last year
157lbs Ryan Sebesta National Qualifier @174

184lbs Sergio Crespo red shirted last year
197lbs Eugene Latson spot starter last year

NYWN: Who are the top wrestlers who graduated/moved on from your team?

Cody McGregor
Kaydon Newton
Alex Kelly
EJ Sampo

NYWN: What newcomers do you think will make an impact?

KM: CJ Walz looks to be college ready and should make an immediate impact. Matt Genau is doing very well - just needs to put on a little size. We also have a few section champs and placers and state place finishers that are doing well -
Jacob Bell
Dominic Crouse
Steven Kapuscinski
Mark Ohanian
Jacob Garrow
Chris Bradford
Adam Mateo

NYWN: What are the highlights of your schedule this year?

KM: We always look forward to the NYS Championships, Regionals and Nationals. We will also be hosting the district duals and have a big dual with Nassau.

NYWN: What do you see as your team's biggest strengths this season?

KM: This group of kids works extremely hard and seems to really bond well as a team.

NYWN: What are your goals/expectations for this season?

KM: Regional Champs and a top ten finish at the nationals
