Freshman Spotlight: Cornell's Trence Gillem & Mike Russo

Trence Gillem

  • What's your favorite thing about wrestling?
            My favorite thing about wrestling is that I don't have to rely on anyone else for my success or failure in the sport.

  • What's the worst?
            The worst part about wrestling is that not everyone appreciates the amount of work we put in and people don't recognize how much the sport takes out of a person.

  • Why did you pick Cornell?
           I picked Cornell because the combination of wrestling and academics is unparalleled by any other institution.

  • Where'd you go to highschool?
           I went to Helix Charter High School in San Diego, CA.

  • What do you miss the most about home?
           The thing I miss most about home is the beach and the Mexican food.

  • What's one thing you're excited about going into your freshman season?
           This season I'm most excited to make a name for myself in the sport.

 

Mike Russo

  • What's your favorite thing about wrestling?
           Getting my hand raised.

  • What's the worst?
           My worst experience with wrestling is losing.

  • Why did you pick Cornell?
           I picked Cornell to study Biology and Society at CALS.

  • Where did you go to high school?
           Jackson Liberty High School

  • What do you miss the most about home?
           I miss going to a Wawa every morning.

  • What's one thing you're excited about going into your freshman season?
           As a freshman, I am excited to compete on a collegiate level.
