Tanelli Announces Arrival of 10 Newcomers for Columbia Wrestling

NEW YORK – Ten newcomers are set to join the Columbia wrestling team, as the first class for the Andrew F. Barth Head Coach of Wrestling Zach Tanelli has been announced today.

"With every new, fresh incoming class of guys, there is an inherent feeling of excitement,” said Tanelli. “We, as a program and as a staff, are excited to see their impact on Columbia Wrestling. I am really looking forward to being both a proud spectator and an active participant in their days inside the wrestling room and on campus. Exciting times are ahead."

The class of 2020 includes: 

Michael Bulkin | 197 | San Diego, Calif. | Del Norte
Split time between 197 and heavyweight at Del Norte High School in San Diego ... Two-time state qualifier who missed the tournament his senior season with an injury ... A team captain his final three seasons ... The son of Nelly and Anatoly Bulkin ... Will attend Columbia College.

Daniel Iredale | 157/165 | Paoli, Pa. | Conestoga
A four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain at Conestoga High School in Pennsylvania ... Claimed eighth place at the AAA Division of the Pennsylvania State Championships ... The son of Kim Stevens and Thomas Iredale ... Will attend Columbia College.

Benjamin Jones | 184 | Wayland, Mass. | Wayland
A captain of the 21-0 Massachusetts D-III State Dual Championship team at Wayland High School in Massachusetts ... The team leader in points, near-falls, pins en route to becoming a 2016 state finalist ... Also played football as a defensive end and tight end, and lacrosse as a defenseman ... Mother, Elizabeth, was a former tennis player at the University of North Carolina while his father, Clayton, played football at Columbia, graduating in 1981 ... Sister, Madison, is a seinor at Columbia ... Will attend Columbia College.

Alec Kelly | 133/141 | Wood-Ridge, N.J. | St. Peter’s Prep
A four-time district champion and region champion at St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey ... Finished third at the Beast of the East tournament in 2013 and 2014 ... The son of Jo-Anne and Brian Kelly ... Will attend Columbia College.

Laurence Kosoy | 165 | Boca Raton, Fla. | Olympic Heights          
A four-time state qualifier at Olympic Heights High School in Florida ... Won the state championship in 2016 at 170 pounds, finishing the season 53-1 overall with 44 pins ... Claimed third during the state championships in 2015 at 160, and second in 2013 at 132 ...  Took part in the NHSCA tournament and the Disney Duals competing for the South Florida Lightning ... The son of Natalya and Roman Kosoy ... Will attend Columbia College.

Val Miele | 141/149 | Basking Ridge, N.J. | Delbarton School
Captain of the wrestling team at Delbarton School in New Jersey his senior season ... A top-12 finisher at the New Jersey State Tournament in 2015 ... Finished eighth at the Beast of the East in 2015 ...  The son of Lisa and Valentine Miele ... Will attend Columbia College.

Brock Morgan | 157 | Fishers, Ind. | Apple Valley (Minn.)
A five-time state championship qualifier at Apple Valley High School in Minnesota ... Team captain his final two years, earning six varsity letters ... Has previously trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center ... Took part in the Minnesota Junior Olympics in 2015 and the Cliff Keen Dream Team USA vs. Minnesota ... The son of Angela and Steve Morgan, who wrestled at Indiana University ... Will attend Columbia College.

Anthony Piscopo | 197 | Huntingdon Valley, Pa. | La Salle College
A three-sport athlete at La Salle College High School in Pennsylvania ... A four-time first team all-catholic selection in wrestling, finishing third at the Pennsylvania State Tournament his senior season ... Won a national championship in the freestyle division at Fargo during the summer of 2016 ... The son of Carolyn and Tony Piscopo ... Older brother, Mike, played baseball at Northeastern University ... Will attend Columbia College.

Francisco Robles | 133 | Park Ridge, N.J. | Park Ridge
A three-sport athlete at Park Ridge High School in New Jersey ... Posted a 36-2 record his senior season, before sitting out the State Tournament due to an injury ... A New Jersey State quarterfinalist his sophomore and junior seasons ... Went 119-16 throughout his four years ... Also spent time on the baseball diamond as a centerfielder and pitcher, while pole vaulting for the track & field team ... The son of Marlyn Nararro Lovett and Evan Lovett ... Blake Williams | 165/174 | Katy, Texas | Cinco Ranch
Earned four letters in wrestling at Cinco Ranch High School in Texas, becoming the team captain his final two seasons ... Part of the Texas Prep State Championship team and Dual Championship team in 2012-13 ... The son of Janel and Eric Williams, who are the CFO and CEO, respectively, of Elite MMA ... Will attend Columbia College.
