Journeymen-St. Jude Wins Pop & Flo Middle School National Duals

Journeymen-St. Jude captured the title at the Pop & Flo Youth Duals over the weekend in Lake Placid, defeating the defending champions, A and B Core (NJ), in the finals 31-15.

The squad was completely in control, especially in the early rounds of the tournament, starting with a 71-3 victory over Iowa Style. Journeymen-St. Jude also earned shutout wins over Smitty's Barn (69-0), Free Agents (85-0) and Jersey United (70-0) along with a triumph over NJ Dynasty (45-9).

There was only one bonus point victory in the finals - a major decision by Journeymen-St. Jude's Vincent Bouzakis at 63 pounds. However, the first place team captured 10 of the 15 bouts overall, including wins by Nic Bouzakis (100), Trevor Mastrogiovanni (115), Ethan Basile (125), Dustin Plott (135), Tyler Hildebrandt (53), Leo DeLuca (58), Vincent Bouzakis (63) Stevo Poulin (78), Cole Skinner (88) and Lachlan Mcneil (93).  Also representing the gold squad in the championship match were Greg Diakomihalis, Ethan Cooper, John Hildebrandt, Mark-Anthony Mcgowan, and Daniel Wask.

Vincent Bouzakis, Trevor Mastrogiovanni, Ethan Basile, Dustin Plott, Leo DeLuca, Stevo Poulin and Cole Skinner were all unbeaten.

Meanwhile, Eddie Ventresca (107), Cadan Wright (150), Brady Conlin (68), Richard Fedalen (73) and Nick Fea (83) came out on top for A and B Core.  Ventresca, Wright, Fedalen and Fea were undefeated.

Dark Knights (PA) nabbed third place with a 44-28 win over Jersey United.  The Pennsylvania squad won eight matches with seven of those victories by bonus points.  Kaya Sement (major), Alex Strashinsky (forfeit), Kelly Dunnigan (major) and Nick Kayal (tech fall) all won for Jersey United, as did Auggie Hibler, Joe Manno and Shane Pursley.

In addition, NJ Dynasty took fifth with Apex MS in sixth, while a pair of NY teams, Superior Gold and Cobra ended seventh and eighth.
