3. Matt Grippi (Fox Lane) - A spectacular sophomore year at 138 pounds vaulted Grippi higher on the list, as he went 50-2, with his only two setbacks against the nation's top-ranked wrestler, Yianni Diakomihalis, in the finals at the Eastern States Classic as well as at the state tournament. The Section 1 standout rode an 11-4 opening round win as well as a 12-0 major in the semis to earn his spot in the championship bout at the Times Union Center. During his 10th grade campaign, Grippi recorded nine victories over state placers. Grippi showed significant potential in his eighth grade season, registering more than 30 wins, including over the eventual state fourth placer before winning a match in Albany as a freshman at 132. He was an All-American at FloNationals this spring.
