In Rochester, Minnesota over the weekend, New York native Jesse Porter (NYAC/NMU) earned a spot on the USA U23 World Team at 75 kg in Greco Roman.
He topped Jon Jay Chavez, who wrestles for Cornell, in two straight matches in the finals series by scores of 7-3 and 7-2.
Porter, who competed for Shenendehowa High School and Journeymen, notched an 8-0 tech fall and 5-3 decision in his first two contests of the competition.
Alexis Porter (NYAC/McKendree) also made the finals of the event, taking second in Women's Freestyle at 63 kg. She was dominant in her first three bouts, winning by fall twice and by 7-0 decision.
In the finals series, she met Maya Nelson (Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club), who swept a pair of decisions to take the spot.
On Sunday, another New Yorker made the top two - Youssif Hemida of Terrapin Wrestling Club (Mamaroneck High School) - in Freestyle at 125 kg. Michael Kroells of Minnesota Storm won two straight in the finals series over Hemida to grab the World team spot.
Lenny Merkin, a Poly Prep grad now at Princeton, nabbed third in Greco at 71 kg.
