A highly competitive schedule awaits the Hofstra University Wrestling team in 2017-18 as Head Coach Dennis Papadatos announced the Pride's upcoming slate. The schedule features 20 dual matches and two in-season tournaments. In addition, Hofstra will serve as the hosts for the 2018 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships in March.
"We are very excited about our 2017-18 schedule and to be hosting the EIWA Championships this year," said Papadatos. "We are a young, but experienced team and this schedule should help us showcase the young talent we have assembled."
The Pride begins a 12-match home slate with their season opener on Sunday, November 5 against EIWA foe Franklin and Marshall and the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The team follows that up the following weekend with a short trip to the Northeast Duals in Troy, New York, where the team will face Kent State and Purdue.
Hofstra's first individual tournament will take place November 18 at the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Maryland. The Pride will host the Hofstra Duals on Sunday December 3 in the Mack Sports Complex, wrestling three matches against The Citadel, Campbell and Penn before closing out the calendar year against George Mason at the Grapple at the Garden in Madison Square Garden.
The New Year opens with a trip to the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 1-2. The Pride will then face Clarion, Columbia and American International at the LIU Post Duals on January 7.
Hofstra will close the regular season with eight of its final 10 dual matches at home in the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. The Pride host Air Force (Jan. 12) and Bloomsburg and Binghamton (Jan. 14) before traveling to take on Big 10 opponent Rutgers on January 19. Hofstra returns to the Mack Physical Education Center for matches against Buffalo (Jan. 27) and Drexel (Feb. 3) followed by a trip to long-time rival Rider on February 8. The regular season concludes with a trio of home EIWA matches against Sacred Heart (Feb. 11), Brown (Feb. 17) and Harvard (Feb. 17).
