In Canada over the weekend, a number of New York wrestlers took home freestyle titles at the Ontario Cup.
Ryan Burgos, representing Finger Lakes Wrestling Club/G2 World Wrestling Academy, won the 50 kg title in the Cadet division. He was a state qualifier for Hilton in 2017.
Team Ten had multiple champions - Josh Englerth (LeRoy) at 58 kg and Nate Murphy (Warsaw) at 63 kg.
Mohawk Valley WC saw 2017 NYS qualifier Antonio Cutrie grab the top spot at 96 kg (Junior), while Grady Alpert (Spencer Van Etten) nabbed first at 76 kg in Cadet competition.

At the Canada Cup in Guelph, a number of New York wrestlers made the podium in freestyle.
Austin Schafer, who trains out of the New York Regional Training Center in Ithaca, earned gold at 97 kg. He was completely dominant with a nine second pin and two technical falls (by scores of 10-0 and 12-1) to win the title.
One of the opponents Schafer defeated was silver medalist Nate Rose, who won his first two bouts by tech fall. During the college season, Rose competed for the University at Buffalo.
Rose's Bulls teammate Muhamed Mcbryde also placed, nabbing bronze at 74 kg after notching four victories.
Enock Francois grabbed fourth at 97 kg with a pair of wins.
